Need to knows

  • Initial session

In your first session, you can expect a conversation that covers topics about your life, history, and the challenges you’re facing. Essentially, the session will aim to determine whether there is potential for us to work together. Beyond that, we’ll explore what you consider to be roadblocks, your relationship with emotions, and the goals you have in mind. From there, we will develop a plan on how you can best overcome the challenges you face. Being nervous is not only ok, it’s expected. While you’re more than welcome to prepare for the first session with goals, you do not need to feel pressure to have it all worked or overly prepare a list of targets or goals. It’s our job to work that out together.

  • Length of Therapy

The frequency of sessions will depend on your individual goals and needs. Initially sessions are usually scheduled fortnightly. This is recommended to establish momentum and build our therapeutic relationship. This will change over time depending on the progress of your journey. We’ll do regular check-ins to assess how you feel your journey is tracking.

  • Privacy and Confidentiality

As a registered Psychologist under the Australian Health Practitioner's Regulation Agency (AHPRA), I operate in accordance with the Australian Code of Ethics. Information disclosed during our sessions will remain confidential unless you provide consent for me to share or exchange information with other parties, such as GPs or other health professionals. Exceptions to this confidentiality apply in cases where there are concerns about your safety or the safety of others or in response to subpoenas. Details regarding the limits of confidentiality will be discussed further during your initial session and are provided in the information and consent form.

  • Fees and Rebates

The fee per session is $220 and is payable on the date of the session. If you have a valid referral as part of a Mental Health Care Plan generated by a GP, the fee is reduced to $123.35. The current Medicare rebate for a General Psychologist is $96.65. Under Medicare, you are eligible to claim rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

You don't need a referral to see a Psychologist, but it is essential if you plan on claiming rebates through Medicare. For information on what makes a referral valid, please refer to our FAQs.
